The Senate's Candid Privacy Policy

You'll find the proper legalese privacy policy below, but if you want to know what we're going to do with what you send us, read on.

A caveat (or two): Any guarantees we make here apply to the Student Union and its government (whose policies the Senate legislates). This means that under a policy such as the RPI Policy on Electronic Citizenship, the Institute can, if it believes you've broken the law or Institute regulations, compel the violation of your privacy - though that's highly unlikely.

We use Google Analytics to track usage of the Senate website and related resources. While Google does have a corporate policy of "Don't be evil," you should read their privacy policy, as we can make no guarantees regarding their use of the anonymous data gathered from your visit.

  • Any statistics we gather as far as cookies, HTTP logs, and the like, will be used within the Senate for purposes of improving the site and customizing content as needed.

  • If you send in feedback via the Senate homepage or MyRPI, we're going to use it to solve your problem as best we can. For our part, the information will be released on a need-to-know basis (only those people working on your problem actively will see your complaint).

  • The only information we're collecting is your name, email address, and commentary. That, and any other information you provide, will be purged from our computer system (though not our backups if they exist) after one academic year.

  • We think it's cool to have a list of the latest submissions to MyRPI, so the subjects (titles) of the latest complaints are displayed for all to see. Your complaint is confidential - your choice of subject isn't.

  • If you should cross the line with your submission, or if the Institute gets nosy, the Student Senate and the Grand Marshal will do their best to retain the confidentiality of any information you submit. That said, we can't make any guarantees in this regard.
